Today I interviewed for a very good position at one of the world's most prestigious art museums, one of the crême de la crême of cultural institutions. Naturally I'm praying for them to choose me. I was the first to be seen and I have no idea who my competitors are and if I'm more qualified than they. All I could do within my power was to be as professional and strategically informative as I can to my potential boss.
She would definitely be someone for whom I would love to work. I could tell she knows the workings inside out, that she's excellent at assessing the strengths and weaknesses of how the operations are and can work with the givens to effect as high a caliber a product or service as possible. I love working with those kinds of people. But just as importantly she possesses a .... how can I say .... a 'polished casualness' about her, how she approaches her work and those working with her.
As for the position itself, I would welcome it wholeheartedly! The challenge is very attractive to me, and most of it really is essentially old hat for me considering my background. What's different, though, is the scope of it all, and the fact that it's to be very high exposure - I would be interacting with various kinds of well known companies.
But the apex, the true awesomeness of it, would be that I'd once again be cradled in my singular passion - art and culture. I wandered around the complex after my appointment, and went specifically to the Renaissance and Flemish paintings. It was divine! I felt like I was home again, after so many years of being lost from it. I found an El Greco, and my smile was so intense that my jaw began to hurt. Needless to say that if do land this position I'll do everything in my power to be the best I could be for it, and to enrich myself with art to the point of satiety and inspiration.
That is what I am in the end. My art, my writing, my desire to contribute to the world and help enrich it through the work I do.
